Cities with Longest Fasting Hours

Cities with Longest Fasting Hours

SEAToday.com, Jakarta - SEAtizens, we will soon begin the preparation for the holy month of Ramadan. This year, Ramadan is expected to begin around the middle of March until mid-April. During that time, the fasting time across the world will range between 12-17 hours.

Due to the earth’s tilt and sun’s position, countries that are close to the equator will have shorter fasting hours than those located further away. Depending on the time of year, the fasting period can even exceed 20 hours!

According to the Al Arabiya, here are 7 places with the longest fasting hours on 2023:

  1. Nuuk, Greenland: 18 hours
  2. Reykjavik, Iceland: 18 hours
  3. Helsinki, Finland: 17 hours
  4. Glasgow, Scotland: 17 hours
  5. Ottawa, Canada: 17 hours
  6. London, United Kingdom: 16-17 hours
  7. Paris, France: 16-17 hours

But do you know? For those living in the areas where the sun never sets such as in Greenland and Alaska, Islamic scholars recommend Muslims to follow the fasting hours of Mecca in Saudi Arabia. So SEAtizens, what will you do to spend your time if you live in one of those cities with the longest fasting hours?
