SEAToday.com, Jakarta - The Indonesian Religious Affairs Ministry declared Ramadan 1445 H will begin on Tuesday, March 12, 2024 AD, after conducting a series of Isbat sessions on Sunday (3/10). This was announced by Religious Affairs Minister Yaqut Cholil Qoumas in a press conference right after the Isbat session.

"Based on hisab, the position of the hilal in several regions in Indonesia is already above the ufuk (horizon) and does not meet the new MABIMS criteria, as well as the absence of seeing the hilal, the isbat session by consensus decided that 1 Ramadan 1445 H will fall on Tuesday, 12 March 2024 AD," said the minister.

The Isbat session to determine 1 Ramadan 1445 H was held behind closed doors by the Ministry, and was attended by a number of community organizations, representatives of neighboring countries, the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), and the House of Representatives. This session determined the beginning of Ramadan based on hilal monitoring from 134 places across Indonesia.
